Alternative preference question structure

Would you identify with or prefer A or B? Very similar to the Likert structure LIKSQ, but with the two ends of the scale being “identify with A” and “identify with B”. For Qni of 5, a reasonable default, the options could be given like this:

• Strongly A
• More A than B
• Mixed
• More B than A
• Strongly B

There are other possibilities for different numbers of options the scale. Having only 2 is strongly discouraged, as this is likely to be a polarising question, with people forced to decide even when they have no clear preference.

Of the fields in the question-info, note that

• QTitle may be constructed in a form such as “QPref1 or QPref2?”
• QDesc may be constructed in a form such as “Would you choose…” or “Do you prefer…” or other similar introductory phrase, followed by the alternatives.

Then the fields that are needed are:

• QPref1: mandatory short description of one end, similar format to QTitle
• Qpref2: mandatory short description of the other end, similar format to QTitle
• QPrefer1: optional longer description of one, similar format to QDesc
• QPrefer2: optional longer description of other, similar format to QDesc

• Use the Likert scale if there is only one statement: this structure is designed for things or positions rather than statements, though it could be used for two contrasting statements.
• Use the Triple question if you want to explicitly name the centre point. This requires an odd Qni
