(draft) What is Ontological Commoning?

This will be a paper, dealing in detail with the ideas raised on 2023-02-22, but it has not yet been started.

Here the emphasis is more on the technical support

• what are ontologies and commoning (as 2023-02-22)
• why ontologies are rarely held in common
• look at Ostrom's principles
• look at Ostrom et al's idea of intellectual commons, and its weaknesses
• ownership by users: communities of practice
  • naturally done in small enough groups by ordinary conversation
• what about ownership and governance by larger, distributed groups?
• examine possibilities
  • DAOs, DiSCOs, supporting sociocracy in distributed groups
  • accessible repository
  • ongoing dialogue practice

Here the emphasis is more on the side of human dialogue practice

• Illustrating everyday unspoken ontology
• specialist ontology among communities of practice dealing with their own area
• examples of complex domains
  • (need some good examples where there is difference)
  • say climate crisis/change
  • say degrowth
  • anything of the polycrisis / metacrisis?

• on all these issues we see polarization and fragmentation
  • they all have to do with global commons in some way
