ch:t:location

One of the RegenCHOICE terms

Location (term)

A place around which an enquiry may be set.

The field LocType is designed to represent this as a code value. In the names of location fields, location is abbreviated to “Loc” or just “L”.

The enquirer may specify one of these locations for a specific enquiry.

  • If the enquirer chooses “nowhere”, they cannot then specify anything about the location of the respondent. The two locations may fit if the respondent either specifies “nowhere”, or notes that the enquirer's location is not important.
  • For lat/long and device places, the enquirer may then specify a maximum distance away for the other party. The two location requirements will fit if the location of the each party is within the maximum distance specified by the opposite party from their chosen location.
  • For political, biorgional or hexagonal (etc.) entities, a pair of location requirements fit if they are the same entity; or if one entity is contained within the other. If they overlap, it is not clear whether the locations fit or not. The enquirer may be advised to specify the required location differently.
